et Zero Australia is collaborating with Airbus, Qantas, and the Queensland Government to establish a $400 million sustainable aviation fuel factory.
The factory will use biomass and agricultural by-products that are not currently utilized. CEO Ed Mason says that the company’s aim is to satisfy airline demands for sustainable aviation fuel and attain the net zero targets by 2050.
The plant’s design will use existing ethanol capacity in Australia and the company plans to get final investment approval by late 2024. The plant will only supply 20% of Qantas’ needs, and Ed says the ethanol will be produced from agricultural by-products already produced or exported.
